Grandparents, Field Trips and Talent Shows galore!

Friday, November 30, was Grandparent's Morning at Tiri! We celebrated by spending time with our class' grandparents and making Christmas decorations together for our Christmas banner. After that, there was a special Grandparent's Morning assembly where students sang and performed, and showed their appreciation for the special person they invited (very similar to the US).

The hall was very full!

On Tuesday, December 4, I was able to attend the COOLEST field trip with one of the syndicates. Auckland Live put on a free dance exhibition day for any school classrooms to sign up for! Auckland Live, as it's website states, is "a leader in live arts and entertainment and an active contributor to the vibrancy and creativity of our city. We present live arts events at a number of prominent venues across Auckland, provide support to the arts and creative sector; and provide opportunities for people of all ages to engage with the arts."

We left straightaway in the morning and bused down to the downtown to the town hall. There, we were welcomed by the production manager and left for our first workshop. In the basement of the Civic Theater, the city's live theater location, we learned some ballet moves and then watched the New Zealand Prima Ballerina, Abigail Boyle, perform the dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. She is a part of the Royal New Zealand ballet! It was pretty cool.

Then we went back to the Town Hall and watched some contemporary dances and learned a dance as well. And finally, we watched a hip hop group performed and then learned a dance to In My Feelings. It was SUCH a great day, and all the students had fun, even the ones who said they weren't excited to go.

On Thursday, December 6, Tirimoana celebrated the annual Tiri's Got Talent show. It was such a fun time to watch! They had a wide variety of acts, including lyrical dance, singing, comedy, magic, you name it. Watching the kids get up and show their confidence on stage and the school cheer for them no matter how they performed was a really cool experience.

The stage:

Two twin brothers in Year 6 performing with their cousin.

Two sisters singing together (in matching outfits)

One sweet little girl singing

One of my students dancing Bollywood with her friend. She loves her culture!!

One of my students dancing her lyrical competition dance

3 CUTE little girls singing Edelweiss.

One little girl starting off the show singing a song from Moana

A student dancing a native Tongan dance. Her dad later joined in the song which was amazing to watch! She even wore the traditional dress made of very thin bark that's pasted together.
